Storms Are On The Way: When Charlotte Can Expect To See Rain

CHARLOTTE, NC — This week has been filled with plenty of sunshine, but that’s all about to change, according to forecasters. Afternoon thunderstorms are expected to roll into the Charlotte metro and Lake Norman areas July 11, the National Weather Service said Wednesday in a hazardous weather outlook advisory.

Temperatures in the region are expected to rise as high as 96 degrees Wednesday, and along with the heat comes an Air Quality Alert. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality in Raleigh issued a Code Orange Air Quality Alert July 11, in effect through 8 p.m., saying ground level ozone concentrations within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards.

Heavy rain remains possible Thursday, the National Weather Services said in its hazardous weather outlook advisory. "Showers and thunderstorms will develop along a stalled frontal boundary. Copious moisture and slow moving storms will lead to the threat of heavy rainfall," it said.
